To better serve our family of schools, we have expanded our Program Options.  Originally, your options were limited to our 4-day 3-night program.  However, over the last few years we have recognized the need for a wider variety of programming choices and have developed the following options for your consideration.


1dayOne-Day Program

Our One-Day program is designed primarily for schools that would like to provide their students with a special day of activities without the need for excessive prior planning or preparation.  This program can be organized quickly and provide an exciting day of learning and adventure for your students.  In most cases it is best to schedule these programs on Mondays, or Fridays, however we do have some weeks available with mid-week openings.  This is also an excellent option as an introduction to our other programs.

  • Arrival time is 9 am and departure is at 3 pm.
  • Students bring their own lunches.
  • Two, 2-hour, class periods are provided with a focus either on academic classes or our team-building and ropes course activities.

overnightTwo-Day Program

Our Two-Day, One-Night program is usually most appropriate for younger students.  As an example a combination Fourth/Fifth grade class or a Fifth grade class coming at the beginning of the school year.  This allows for a stimulating learning experience without too much time away from home.  In most cases it is best to plan on a Tuesday/Wednesday, or Thursday/Friday schedule, however there are weeks which would allow for other scheduling options.

  • Arrival time is 10 am with departure at 1 pm, after lunch, the following day.
  • All meals (4) and housing are provided.
  • Two, 2-hour, class periods are provided on the day of arrival with one, 2-hour, night activity offered that night.  One, 2-hour, class period is provided the following morning.
  • Programming focus options include academic classes and/or team-building with advanced ropes course elements.

3dayThree-Day Program

Our Three-Day, Two-Night program is appropriate for all grade levels.  High Sierra Outdoor Institute is unique in offering three, 2-hour, class periods during full days of any overnight program.  Most other outdoor education programs only provide two classes per day.  This option allows for a more in-depth experiential learning experience for your students without the cost and planning associated with more traditional full-week programs.  It is usually best to schedule this programming choice for Tuesday through Thursday, however there are weeks in our calendar that allow for other scheduling options.

  • Arrival time is 10 am with departure at 1 pm, after lunch, on the final day.
  • All meals (7) and housing are provided.
  • After moving-in to your quarters a thorough orientation is provided before lunch.  Two, 2-hour, class periods are provided on the day of arrival with One, 2-hour, night activity offered that night.
  • On your second day with us Three, 2-hour, class/activity periods are offered with a Second, 2-hour night activity that evening.
  • One, 2-hour, class period is provided the following morning prior to the final lunch meal and departure.
  • Programming focus options include a wider range of academic classes and team-building activities, with advanced ropes course elements.

4dayFour-Day Program

Our traditional Four-Day program is appropriate, and an excellent choice, for all grade levels above 4th grade.  With classes and activities covering four days and three nights, this programming option allows for a full complement of class and activities, and provides a rich learning experience with memorable adventure activities.  This option is limited to Tuesday through Friday scheduling. High Sierra Outdoor Institute is unique in offering three, 2-hour, class periods during full days of any overnight program.  Most other outdoor education programs only provide two classes per day.

  • Arrival time is 10 am with departure at 1 pm, after lunch, on the final day.
  • All meals (10) and housing are provided.
  • After moving-in to your quarters a thorough orientation is provided before lunch.  Two, 2-hour, class periods are provided on the day of arrival with One, 2-hour, night activity offered that night.
  • On your second and third days with us Three, 2-hour, class/activity periods are offered each day with a  2-hour night activity each evening.
  • One, 2-hour, class period is provided the final morning prior to the lunch meal and your departure.
  • Programming focus options include the full range of in-depth, hands-on, academic classes along with all team-building activities and our advanced ropes course elements.

5dayFive-Day Program

Our new Five-Day program is appropriate, and an excellent choice, for all grade levels above 4th grade and, is especially beneficial when attending with multiple grade levels at the same time.  With classes and activities covering five days and four nights, this programming option allows for the full complement of class and activities that we offer with the added benefit of programming electives such as water activities and paintball.  This option allows for the most in-depth and complete experience for your students.  High Sierra Outdoor Institute is unique in offering three, 2-hour, class periods during full days of any overnight program.  Most other outdoor education programs only provide two classes per day.

  • Arrival time is 10 am with departure at 1 pm, after lunch, on the final day.
  • All meals (13) and housing are provided.
  • After moving-in to your quarters a thorough orientation is provided before lunch.  Two, 2-hour, class periods are provided on the day of arrival with One, 2-hour, night activity offered that night. 
  • On your second, third and fourth days with us Three, 2-hour, class/activity periods are offered each day with a 2-hour night activity each evening.
  • One, 2-hour, class period is provided on your last morning prior to the final lunch meal and departure.
  • Programming focus options include the full range of in-depth, hands-on, academic classes along with all team-building activities, our advanced ropes course elements, and options for elective classes such as water activities, paintball.
